Canaries in Yorkshire

This is the creative territory I like to be in at the moment - a poem and soundtrack working together. The more musical tracks I think of as practising for these pieces which are much harder to create. It is so very easy to be cliched when sampling and cutting the human voice.

I wrote the poem after a holiday in the Lake District - we came back and spent a night in Warwick so we could visit the Barbara Hepworth gallery and then spent the afternoon in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

During this whole holiday I was thinking about a friend of mine who had died not so long before. I guess then it's about ageing and losing people unexpectedly but also about honouring the whole cycle.

It's part of the longer 'Direction of travel' sequence which is now about three-quarters done.
